Rationale
Business Communication is any communication used to promote a product, service, or organization - with the objective of making a sale. Business Communication encompasses a huge body of knowledge including Marketing, Branding, Customer relations, Consumer behaviour, Advertising, Public relations, Media relations, Corporate communication, Community engagement, Research & Measurement, Reputation management, Interpersonal communication, Employee engagement, Online communication, and Event management. Whatever form it takes, the objective remains the same - to make a sale. The Business Communication message is conveyed through various channels of communication including The Internet, OR The Sending And Receiving Of Information And Data From One Point To Another Point For The Profit Of A Business Or Organization Is Called Business Communication. Introduction and Aims
- To understand and be able to explain how communication affects business outcomes.
- To understand the environment within which business messages are sent and the issues facing business communicators.
- To understand the principles that contribute to effective communication.
- To review the fundamentals of correct usage of the English language.
- To improve written and oral communication skills needed in business.
- To learn to effectively give and receive constructive criticism.
- To practice and/or improve listening skills.
- To practice being an effective team member.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the programme students should be able to:
1. Business Communication: Background and Theory
2. Understand the communication process, barriers to it, techniques for overcoming them and for assessing the effectiveness of communication.
3. Acknowledge the different modes of communication, including face-to-face interactions, letters, memos, telephone contact, electronic mail, the internet and video conferencing and assess the relevant advantages and disadvantages of each one.
4. Written Communication: Modes of Communication and Computer Software Applications
5. Produce and use appropriately a range of written communications including, electronic mail messages, memos, letters, briefs, direct mail, reports, press releases and job descriptions.
6. Understand the key elements of word processing, including page layout, typefaces and fonts, and printing and other computer software applications.
7. Oral Communication: Presentations and Visual Aids
8. Understand the purposes of presentations and speeches and how to prepare for their delivery.
9. Demonstrate the choice and use of visual aids. Appreciate how to use the telephone effectively and the importance of listening skills.
10. Visual Communication 1: Logos, Graphics and Multimedia
11. Visual Communication 2: Using Statistical Data and Information
12. Meetings and interviews: Structure, Content and Listening
13. Identify different types of meetings and interviews. Understand the formal structures, procedures and documentation necessary for successful meetings and interviews.
